Glamour Beauty Festival ’18

BEST DAY EVER – not even being dramatic.

(I made it bold and underlined to make my point, oh and pink)

What a venue, they literally transformed the entire Saatchi gallery into a girls heaven. Make up room, skincare room, hair room, nails room. You name it, they had it.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_2bb7As soon as you walked in there was an instagrammable wall with cool writing all over it. The whole atmosphere was amazing, everyone was so friendly. I don’t think any of us have ever had so many comments about our outfits or make up hahaha. As soon as we got in we headed to the prosecco bar – duh. All we had to do was tag a Phillips product on instastories and we got a free glass. That’ll do nicely!

The whole thing heavily revolved or incorporated social media so naturally I was in my element.

We all got our hair done at the ‘freshen up’ bars, Iona and I got ours done by Batiste and Kirstie got hers done Schwarzkopf Got2b colour bar. My hair was already straight so I got some extra curls in it and I swear I’ve never had such good curls. They stayed in amazingly with no hair spray! Kirstie got grey put in her hair and it looked so cool – funky fresh babe.

We then got to do a feel unique ‘Pick n mix’ where you could pick 5 different products – FUN and STRESSFUL hahaha. Also you could literally go and get ready for your night out there if you wanted as there was a stand for every bit of make up – base, contouring, lips, eyebrows, eyeshadow etc. We already had our make up on though so we each opted for a different treatment, I got my eyebrows done by ‘Nude By Nature’ (Didn’t actually rate them too much, I didn’t like the shape but thats just personal preference). Iona had some poppinnnn’ red lips done by NARS and Kirstie got some fierce contour by revlon.

….BUT OMG the best part was the goodie bag. We were like children on Christmas morning opening it all in the evening. I took some pictures below of what was inside it, personal fav is the Guerlain body lotion – smells amazing and sooo large!

I will 100% be going next year and you all should too!

Spending Habits

That feeling when you get home from a day of shopping with lots of bags or when the delivery man turns up with your online order is something special but why are we so addicted to new clothes?

My dad literally goes mental when he sees I’ve bought something new, he’s all like “Meh meh what a waste of money, have you seen the amount of clothes you own” (I’ve moved 500 miles away and he still thinks I have too many clothes at home? hahaha) BUT I just don’t see new clothes as a waste of money. They excite me so much and I love trying them on and seeing what they go with.

I was reading an article and it said spending that ties in with someones personality increases a persons happiness the most. So whilst some people might like to spend money on experiences, some may like to spend it on books or eating out. I absolutely love eating out but I don’t enjoy spending money on it, I don’t appreciate super expensive food therefore a Zizzis will satisfy me much more than a Michelin star restaurant would (Cheap date I know). Whereas clothes are what I spend my money on, if I didn’t spend money on the newest Zara range I would have a lot more money in the bank. But so what, whatever makes you happy right?!

Anyway this H&M co-ord definitely made me happy thats for sure

Is social media running the world?

100% – after reading the August issue of Glamour Magazine  I’ve been inspired to write this blog post. (Seriously their Article  about working at Instagram HQ – DREAMS)

For people who know me you know how much I love social media & especially Instagram. Some may say I’m obsessed and slag my hashtags 😂😂😂 but it inspires so many aspects of my life.

Years ago you would mostly ‘stalk’ people and businesses on Facebook but now it’s all about Instagram. Private? – get off Instagram. LET ME SEE YOUR PICTURES. If I’m thinking about going to a restaurant, hotel or cocktail bar etc I check out its location tags on Instagram, does the food & atmos look nice and instagrammable (most importantly haha)? Oh and especially salons and hair dressers (not that I get my hair cut more than once a year), but if nobody has tagged their sparkly new nails on Instagram I’m suspicious.

In cosmopolitans August issue an article about social media stated that nearly 100% of UK business use social media for growth. How crazy is that?! Not that I’m biased but I’m 98.9% sure that social media has contributed to the success of The West House (I run the social media pages and I actually live for it – I never want to stop its so fun hahaha). People literally want to come to take pictures of their breakfast to post. The amount of times I’ve seen tweets ‘If you don’t take a picture of your West House breakfast did you even go?’ And I’ve seen multiple people posting pictures of their homemade breakfasts saying ‘West House eat your heart out’.

It’s made me realise just how important social media is to the world we live in. It’s not the be all and end all but for me personally I love creating a picture/outfit/concept to capture and share. I also don’t agree with making all your social media channels private for future employers. Don’t you want them to see that your fun and friendly and creative sides? Obviously for my future career this will be more important than for other careers. Yeah delete any embarrassing pictures wearing skirts up to your ears when you were 18, but embrace the exciting and colourful world we live in & post about it!

Just a few delayed flight thoughts 👌🏼🔆 let me know what you think.

Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Looks

Inspired by this beautiful MORPHE palette I decided to do a couple of different looks using mainly, but not exclusively, this range of colours. I’m absolutely no make up artist and not claiming to be one but doing eyeshadow is one of my favourite things so I thought I would share a few pictures/ideas with you guys!

  1. Date Night Sparkle

Using the orange and brown tones I managed to create this date night look, I love the inside being much lighter and gold so I started with that and blended out to dark at the edges. These sort of colours work with most outfits so thats always a bonus.

Some colours I used from the palette:

  1. Hunts
  2. Queen
  3. Firework
  4. Buns
  5. Faint
  6. Beam

2. Royal Blue Paradise

Often I just do whatever eye colour comes to mind first and there are some beautiful blues and silver tones in the palette so I thought I would create a Royal Blue look. I added some extra pigmentation using the Urban Decay Electric palette.

Some colours I used from the palette:

  1. Jada
  2. Pool Party
  3. Twerk
  4. Enchanted
  5. Diva
  6. Enlight

3. Eye popping purple

This is my favourite look, My friend Logan sent me a link to Carly Bybels latest Purple Metallic Smokey Eye so I took some Inspo from that, I didn’t have the exact same colours and I am definitely not as good so didn’t turn out the exact same but I like the way it turned out. Heres a link below to her video if you want to check it out!

Some colours I used from the palette:

  1. Royalty
  2. Twerk
  3. Central Park
  4. Soda Pop
  5. Chip
  6. Sissy
  7. Faint

I also added to the pigmentation and intensity using the urban decay electric palette once again for the light pink!

P.s I added a wee bit of ‘Glitter Eyes’ to each look at the end to give that extra sparkle because WHY NOT. They are amazing check them out here:

Hope you enjoyed!

London @ Christmas

Theres no better place to explore during the christmas period than beautiful London. Getting all wrapped up and just wandering around the light drenched streets and activities. As I am on my train HOME (B U Z Z I N G) I thought I would include some pretty pictures of my last few weeks in London.

  1. Winter Wonderland & South Bank market

2. Peggy Porsches (duh) – We literally had to queue for like half an hour for a £5 cupcake hahahaha. It was worth it for the pretty pictures though!

3. Oxford Street – I am SO OBSESSED with Selfridges “With Love From…” sign. It is amazing.

4. The Chinese Lantern Festival – potentially expensive ticket at £16 – however it was amazing. Think again if you are imagining a couple of lanterns scattered around, this is a full on bigger-than-life-size lantern exhibition. It spans the inside of Chiswick Park surrounding the amazing Chiswick house. If you get a chance I highly recommend it, its fab. It is on until the 1st of Jan!

5. Slightly outside London but only a mere 47 minute train to Bicester Village – UNREAL!!!!!! A purpose built designer outlet shopping village. Its like walking into Disney, I couldn’t believe it. And I know sometimes you think how good can the discounts actually be??? Well I can confirm they are amazing. £795 mulberry bag reduced to £239???? hell yes. A complete mix of old season stuff along with current collections. My Vivienne Westwood bag was half the price (Cry). £11 train ticket there, that’ll do nicely. Sadly I didn’t buy anything for myself just some presents and Princess John got lots naturally!

Film School so far

Wondering what I’m actually doing in London? Well I wrote a bit about what and why I’m going to film school a month before I came so I thought I would add that in pink (naturally) and ill write my reactions in black after hahaha we will see whats changed so far…

Most people probably think this has come out of nowhere as I’ve just graduated with an honours in Geography. But to be honest – it was boring as hell. I mean yeah it was fine but most people sailed through it but I struggled big time. I wasn’t passionate about it by the end and I don’t want to do a job where I sit at a desk all day – granted not all geography graduates will be doing that, but you get the idea. So here I am about to start a Masters in Producing at the second best Film school in the UK. Here I am a month in to my course and I am loving it. The people are amazing and the teachers are fab. They are definitely throwing us in the deep end – we have already had to create a short film and show it to the entire year (HEART RACING) and now we have to develop the idea into a feature film and pitch it to big dawgs of the industry in 3 weeks. Stress.

I’ve always loved the backstage buzz of live shows and TV programmes. Seriously when Angus, Thongs & Perfect snogging (yeah – my kinda movie) came with a “Behind the scenes” disk – I watched it on replay for days!

I’m absolutely not a movie buff and nor have I ever claimed to be one. So many people laugh when I haven’t seen a certain movie – “but your going to film school!”.

I’m not going because I’m obsessed with films, I’m going because I’m obsessed with the way films are made.

No joke you should see the list of movies I have to watch now. People compare movies allllll the time and we have lots of guest lecturers that talk about the movies they have worked on etc.

With this in mind, I can imagine I am going to be very out of my depth. I could tell you all about the UK’s population demographics but as for how to finance and produce a movie – no clue. But I am SO excited to learn it all. Hopefully I can bring in my previous degree to my work in the future. As I studied human geography we covered ALOT of topics from criminology to media in Jamaica to health and disability; so this gives me a broad topic range in which to create ideas in the future. Yep – definitely out of my depth. Some of the people on my course have been in the industry for a while. There are 18 people studying producing (my course) and then there are another 40 odd studying cinematography, screenwriting, directing and post-production (editing etc). In the first few weeks we were all together so Ive made friends with a lot of people on different courses.

YEAH WOO FRIENDS, I didn’t think I could make new friends (probably too sad about leaving all my friends in Dundee) It was like starting at high school all over again hahahaha but here the wee gems are ↓↓↓↓↓  LY GUYS ♥♣♦♠

Well thats my first month of Film school experience in a nutshell. I also went to see ‘The Florida Project” and “Breathe” at the BFI London Film Festival – DEFO go see them at the cinema they are both AMAZING. Definitely recommend. Anyway this was some major procrastination from my essay so back to it I go…

My Charlotte Tilbury Experience – Covent Garden

This was literally the PERFECT next blog topic due to the fact the whole experience was PERFECT.

So usually your feeling a bit flash and think oh yes I fancy getting my make up done for my night out, so you find a local make up artist – great £35 bargain, lovely make up…and 6 hours later its washed off and you have nothing to show for it. WELL never again, thats for sure!

If you spend £35 on products in Charlotte Tilbury then you get a free make over?! We couldn’t believe it. I needed new mascara anyways so this was the perfect excuse.

A lovely girl greeted us, showed us downstairs to the most beautiful purple room full of theatre style mirrors (my fav). First up we got offered a FREE (in London?!) glass of prosecco, naturally we obliged and then we had to pick one ‘makeover look’ from the wall. I opted for the ‘Dolce Vita’ however the make up artist mixed it up a bit, cause why not?!

The make up artist took just over a full hour on me which is really impressive for in store  make up services, usually they are trying to get you out and on to the next client. She massaged my face, used that amazing wonder glow cream and spent soooo much time on my skin and making sure I was happy with it all. Heres a few snaps of the finished product (Que eyerolling from my mother and her thinking “TOO MUCH MAKE UP” hahahaha)

I would HIGHLY recommend using these in store services where the price of the make over is redeemable on any products. Amazing!

Lots of love, LCB x

Capture the star

So recently I’ve done quite a lot of promo photoshoots for my friends and I’m FINALLY sharing my favourite photos from my shoot with my wee singing star/best friend Amy!

My camera and I have been following Amy on her gigs in and around Dundee the past few weeks and I couldn’t be prouder to support her every step of the way. She is such a talented singer songwriter its no surprise she has had so many gigs over Summer.

If you haven’t checked her out then visit her new website and follow all her social media channels!

Below are a few snaps I’ve taken:

Then below are a selection of the photoshoots we did together a while ago. Be prepared for some serious abs envy along with some jacket envy.

Much Love,
